The Golden Joysticks Awards – The Likely Winners and the Dark Horses

Best Strategy

The Contenders €“ Age of Empires Online, Anno 2070, Civilisation V: Gods and Kings, Crusader Kings II, Heroes of Might and Magic VI, Total War: Shogun 2 €“ Fall of the Samurai, Tropico 4: Modern Times, Unity of Command: Stalingrad Campaign, Wargame: European Escalation The Likely - Total War: Shogun 2 €“ Fall of the Samurai The Dark Horse - Civ5: Gods and Kings The Verdict €“ Shogun 2 was one of the best instalments in the Total War franchise for a long time €“ you€™d have to go back to 2006 to find something comparable (which in gaming, is a long time). While Creative Assembly have received a lot (a LOT) of flak from the community for changing the engine and coding to prevent the level of modding present in Rome and Medieval II (think Lord of the Rings and Warhammer Total War) it cannot be denied that they have something of a golden touch when it comes to blending engaging strategical gameplay and gorgeous real time battles.
