After Ellie released the two in the conclusion of the game, Abby and Lev board a small boat and disappear into the fog. From their earlier appearance in the game’s final chapter, it is clear that they are attempting to find the Fireflies. However, it is never confirmed that they do.

Once the game has been completed, the menu screen alters from that of a rowing boat hitched to a rotten post amidst a thick fog to the same boat moored on Catalina beach. It is speculated that this area is a meeting point for wayward Fireflies and is meant to offer a glimmer of hope that Abby and Lev finally made it.

But what is in Catalina once they make it? After the constant battles throughout Abby and Lev’s story, it couldn’t be this easy. They would have to prove themselves to the fractured unit, as well as assist them in thriving once again. Not only that, but given the organisation of the Rattlers in Santa Barbara, it wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine there are more barbaric groups in other pockets of California.

An episode which focuses on the reformation of the Fireflies would be a great introduction to the story’s final chapter.
