8. Splendid Visuals

Indeed, this is a tremendous-looking game, and while it might not boast a Crysis-level of shininess, it is in its own way just as impressive, both in terms of the scale it manages to convey, and the more intimate, humanistic elements of the struggle. The environments are stunningly vast, but it's the quality of the character animation that really takes The Last of Us' visual style to the next level; combat is slick and fluid, complete with all of the clumsiness that this desperate struggle entails. Best of all are the up-close facial animations during dialogues, which are alongside the likes of Metal Gear Solid 4 some of the best that gaming has ever seen. Though movie studios will no doubt be clambering over themselves to adapt this game into a movie, we really don't need it when the production quality across the board is so high...
