The Legend Of Zelda: 10 Best Intro Dungeons
3. The Wind Waker: Forsaken Fortress
With its cutesy cel-shaded art style and an open sea replacing the Hyrule Fields of yore, The Wind Waker was a noted departure from the conventions previously established in the franchise. While the series' debut outing on the Gamecube has since become something of a fan favourite, it was unfairly panned by critics upon release, with many expecting that the art style was indicative of a watered-down Zelda experience.
The Wind Waker shook up the formula further in its first dungeon, the Forsaken Fortress. Instead of the straightforward locked-room puzzles that marked the series' previous entries, the Forsaken Fortress consists of one extended stealth section, as Link must sneak past Moblin guards, using a barrel for cover.
The dungeon is essentially the Hyrule Castle maze from Ocarina of Time taken to the extreme, and while the mechanic ensures the Forsaken Fortress remains one of the most unique dungeons in the franchise, the surprising difficulty of sneaking past all the guards and spotlights proved that The Wind Waker was more than just a kid-friendly take on Zelda.
