JC Denton is the iconic protagonist of the original Deus Ex, and so many fans were disappointed that he didn't return as a playable character in follow-up Deus Ex: Invisible War.

However, he does play a major role in the story later on, given that he's revealed to be held in cryogenic stasis in Antarctica, and when protagonist Alex Denton thaws him out, players are given a choice.

You can either help JC in his plan to merge humanity with the Helios AI or oppose him, and if you pick the latter option, you'll have to take him out in battle.

After spending the entire first game playing as JC, it's an absolute trip seeing the mission objective "Kill JC Denton" at the end of this one - assuming, of course, that you reject his plans for humanity.

Naturally JC's arc in Invisible War is just one of the many reasons that it's a hugely polarising sequel among the fandom.
