UFC 4 Review: 6 Ups & 3 Downs
3. Roster (And The Many Missing Faces)
Now for the first real outright slap in the face avid fight fans will experience when taking the newest UFC video game for a PS4 or Xbox One spin.
On the surface, the announcement of a jaw-dropping 232 playable characters was enough to leave fans rubbing their hands at the prospect of getting to grips with some of their favourite and perhaps lesser known UFC athletes.
Yet, once you begin to skim through the divisions, it quickly becomes clear that more than a few top class mixed martial artists haven't made the cut. Calvin Kattar, Dan Ige, Maycee Barber and Roxanne Modaferri are just some of the high profile contenders missing on the games current roster.
To add further insult to injury, failed MMA fighter and former WWE wrestler CM Punk, Heavyweight Champion boxers Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, UFC announcer Bruce Buffer and even Dana (f*cking!) White all made the cut, but current ranked #3 Flyweight Askar Askarov did not.
I get it, having superstars like Fury, Joshua and even former UFC names like Ronda Rousey and Cris Cyborg appear in the game will undoubtedly appeal to those who don't class themselves as out-and-out MMA fans.
Yet, not only does this deprive die-hards of the chance to play with every active UFC performer from the day of release (hopefully these left out names are added in later updates!) it must also be quite demoralising for those who have worked their asses off to make a name for themselves in Dana White's company.
