UFC 4 Review: 6 Ups & 3 Downs
1. No More Ultimate Team
The mightiest of Ups is reserved for the spot on decision to scrap the ill-fated Ultimate Team mode for UFC 4.
After struggling to adapt the micro-transaction concept - present in more team-based sport games - for the fighting arena, EA ultimately decided to spend less time trying to squeeze even more money out of their loyal fanbase and instead focused on giving them a well-rounded one-on-one fighting experience.
That doesn't mean they've dropped micro-transactions entirely, though.
You can still opt to buy add-on fighters like Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Bruce Lee with your hard earned cash, but it's in the A.I. customisation zone where the real in-game purchasing push is felt. Thankfully, the important thing to note is that you can earn the majority of these add-ons by picking up points in Career Mode.
This move really feels like a respectful nod to the fans, as EA have happily dropped something which has earned them a ton of extra cash in other sporting series (but undoubtedly failed in the UFC games) to put more time and effort into ensuring other modes available are an overall blast.
