4. He's [not] Got A Ticket To Ride - Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Though the Uncharted series is known for its spectacular set-pieces, it is perhaps the train sequence from Among Thieves that is the most iconic.
After Chloe's questionable betrayal of Nate to maintain her cover, Nate pursues her by jumping onto the train that she's become a passenger of. The locomotive is littered with enemies that must be dispatched in order to progress further up to the train's front, which is challenging enough, so when a menacing gunship helicopter ascends from one of the mountain range's many valleys Nate's chances of survival go from minimal to downright impossible.
Though the set-piece is breath-taking in its own right, the change in climate somehow feels seamless, as the luscious greens of the Nepalese countryside are replaced by the unforgiving brightness of the white mountaintops and dull, grey cliff edges. Hopping from carriage to carriage takes up the majority of the player's attention, but the incredible environments that pass by at such a rapid rate are not to be neglected.
The train derails high in the Himalayan mountains, and the game's jaw-dropping introduction is given the clarity it so preciously needs. Nate's quest to stop Lazarevic continues, and our hero lives to fight another day.
