Uncharted 4: 10 Essential Things That Must Happen

Indiana who? Naughty Dog's lead adventurer might be able to succeed where others failed.

Finally after an initial teaser seemed to hint at a fairly dark turn for everyone's favourite rough n' tumble explorer, a full gameplay demo has been revealed showing that fans needn't worry. Nathan Drake hasn't changed one bit, and is still bumbling his way through another adventure on the search for some ill-gotten gains. There's a heap of things to talk about, from phenomenal voice actor Troy Baker joining the ranks as Drake's older brother - creating a few million cases of spontaneous air-punching when fans found out - to a fairly revamped gameplay engine. Oh, and the fact that The Last of Us' powerhouse writer Neil Druckmann is heading up script duties this time round. Drake has always been a character that you couldn't help but love. He's the perfect mix of what you might do or say in the situations he finds himself in - yelling vague obscenities whilst trying to survive tumbling down a mountainside, for example - as well as having a fierce intelligence that appears at the most unexpected times; like deciphering some ancient language scrawled into a wall that leads you to the next clue at the last minute. Its this back n' forth style that translated into each of the games too, as Druckmann's script for Uncharted 2 really took things up a gear. Almost every beat of part two made you realise that when the right amount of care and attention is put behind a project, video games really can be a phenomenal experience just as enjoyable and immersive as the most powerful examples on the silver screen. Many cried foul when a part four was announced though - it certainly didn't go well for Drake's whip-cracking filmic influence, that's for sure - and with a couple of notable names from the original writing team now departed, all eyes are on part four to see if it can buck the outside-trilogy-instalment trend.
