Why You Should Buy A Nintendo Wii In 2019

5. It's A Free GameCube

Now, not EVERY Wii comes with the ingenious backwards compatibility that allows you to play GameCube games.

The one you want is the first gen, sold from 2006 to 2011.

Gen 2 removed the backwards compatibility, and the third gen was named the Wii Mini, a tiny Wii that didn't sell in large quantities and was launched as the budget version of a budget console.

Back to GameCubes, as the vast majority of Wiis do have backwards compatibility. Just watch the version when purchasing.

Because when you do, you literally get 2 consoles for the price of 1. With classic games like Zelda: Wind Waker, Metroid Prime and Pokémon Colosseum, it opens up another amazing library of titles to play. If you still have old controllers, games or memory cards lying around, you can just pop them in and enjoy.

Whether it's a way to relive the games of you youth or to experience amazing games you never got to enjoy back then, the Wii is an easy gateway drug into the Gamecube library. And once you get hooked, you won't stop till you get your fix.
