World of Warcraft: 6 Scary Things Blizzard Don’t Like to Talk About

5. The Corrupted Blood Plague

This was a famous incident that occurred a while back on World of Warcraft that had Blizzard literally working non-stop to try and contain it. A new dungeon, Zul€™ Gurub, was fitted into the game, along with of course, a brand new boss. This new boss inflicted its victims with an infectious debuff known as Corrupted Blood, which drained the player€™s HP drastically, and was only ever intended to work inside the relatively high-level Zul€™ Gurub. However, wiley players soon discovered that thanks to an unforeseen glitch, teleporting whilst inflicted with the curse allowed them to transport it out into the larger map. What followed can only be described as a pandemic; players across the level range were either killed repeatedly by the debuff or bothered to the point the game was virtually unplayable. Despite most players innocently adhering to Blizzard€™s world-wide quarantines and containment procedures (don€™t forget this is all in-game), some decided to perpetuate the spread out of€well, out of worrying mischievousness I guess. What€™s really interesting though is that after the fact, anti-terrorism experts now look to the case when studying the effects of biological pandemics out in the real world. Apparently, we react to in-game biological attacks in exactly the same way we would if they had happened in reality. Now tell me WoW doesn€™t have its darker side.
