World of Warcraft: 6 Scary Things Blizzard Don’t Like to Talk About

3. Even Blizzard Hates Alliance Players

Blizzard were clever when they created their two warring factions, The Alliance vs. The Horde. No other MMO I€™ve played has quite managed to capture that sense of conflict that comes from spotting that floating red text of a rival faction member on a PvP server. You might not be an active member of the convention community and might have never attended one of Blizzard€™s famous BlizzCon events and as such may not have experienced this worrying phenomena, but according to several forum based sources out there, this faction rivalry stems far into the realms of real life. To the point where Alliance players have reported being mocked, goaded, pushed around and even spat on by Horde players when attending the prestigious event. There€™s also the resounding feeling that Blizzard, as a collective unit, is one huge Horde player, with almost every Blizzard rep at the event of late being actively pro Horde. Perhaps the most worrying indication of this Anti-Alliance feeling came from a recent event, in which a senior Blizzard representative endorsed a celebrity video that questioned Alliance Players€™ sexualities (like it matters €“ only in gaming is homophobia still accepted) and even saying that Alliance members should all die IRL. Sure, you could argue this is all framed as some sort of joke €“ Horde are meant to be evil douche-bags in game after all €“ but isn€™t it worrying when people start getting so related to their own characters that they bring this hatred out of the game and into the real world with them? Sure, I kill cops in Grand Theft Auto, but would I feel the urge to do it in real life? You€™re damn right I wouldn€™t.
