WWE 2K22 is huge for 2K Games, and they know it.

The development team made such a balls up of 2K20 that they can't afford another slip. That must be why 2K were backstage at WWE's Royal Rumble 2021 pay-per-view this past Sunday night.

PWInsider's Mike Johnson leaked news that 2K were in the ThunderDome over the weekend, and he claims they were recording a batch of voiceovers with some of the talent. Johnson also said that the company plan to scan every single wrestle who will be featured in the game.

That's a departure from recent years - in 2K20, for example, only a small percentage were body scanned. Others had their in-game models cobbled together from past entries in the series or would be built from the ground up using the current engine.

This system did nothing to ensure a consistent level of quality between characters.

2K are obviously taking the next game very seriously, as they should. Again, this really is make or break for them as the chief dev-team working on WWE titles. They need 2K22 to be a smash hit and restore some lost faith amongst long-term fans.
