YouTube user Macho T couldn't have known about the new Towers Mode when he was speculating on the return of those old Gauntlet matches (starring The Undertaker) to 2K's series. That was a happy coincidence, but the account will hope they're also right about some other new match types coming to 2K19.

Namely, WWE's Mixed Match Challenge concept could see mixed tag-team matches become an option.

This is by far the most interesting stipulation Macho T discussed in his video, one that also talked up the chances of traditional 'I Quit' matches and Inferno matches being included; watch the vid to hear commentary lines and ring announcements 2K have recorded for some of these matches. That's why these rumours persist.

It'd make sense for 2K to capitalise on WWE's Mixed Match Challenge, especially if the promotion plan to do it again in early 2019. Playing as teams like Braun Strowman and Alexa Bliss or Finn Bálor and Sasha Banks in a tournament format would be fun, and the mode would let players create their own mixed gender duos.
