10 More Horror Movie Openings NOBODY Saw Coming
4. The Collection
Since Marcus Dunstan's The Collector depicts people being disemboweled, mauled by dogs, and sliced up by bear traps. In a nutshell, this depraved slasher is not for the squeamish.
But based on how the sequel starts, it's obvious Dunstant is ramping up the gore. The Collection opens with a trio of friends entering an exclusive club, ready to have a memorable night (although not the one they have in mind). While they party on the dance floor, the sinister Collector can be seen roaming the rafters, admiring his prey.
With the flick of a switch, the masked manic activates an overelaborate machine on the ceiling, which is revealed to be a harvesting thresher. The camera cuts to the clubbers down below, oblivious to what fate has in store for them.
Slowly but surely, the colossal deathtrap descends upon the dance floor, eviscerating the hapless patrons in an instant. Even though the massacre itself lasts less than 30 seconds, it leaves a huge impression, since the scene is built up so well.
As brutal as the first film was, it has nothing as horrifying (or as creative) as The Collection's opening act.
