10 More Horror Movie Openings NOBODY Saw Coming

Every entry in the Scream series tries to set things in motion in the most unexpected way possible. For this reason, you'd think fans would be extra vigilant to avoid being caught out.

And yet, Scream VI's prologue left everyone stumped. In this scene, Professor Crane is at a bar, when her blind date calls her to say he's gotten lost. When Crane heads out to spot him, the caller beckons her to an alley, claiming he can see her.

After being lured in, the caller reveals himself to be the latest Ghostface. The masked killer then bursts from a side alley, stabbing Crane to death.

With no warning, Ghostface pulls off his mask, revealing his identity straight away. As he heads home, it's clear the killer - Jason and his boyfriend, Greg - are working together as the new Ghostfaces.

Naturally, this unmasking caught everyone off-guard. In previous instalments, fans spent the whole film trying to figure out who the murderer is. But since Ghostface has been exposed before the title has even dropped, it's hard to tell where the story can go from here.

Suddenly, Jason is stabbed to death by ANOTHER Ghostface, indicating this killer will serve as the primary antagonist instead.

Although the rest of Scream VI follows a tried-and-test formula, this subversive opening threw everyone for a loop.
