10 More Horror Movie Villains Who Got The Best Revenge
3. Anton Phibes - The Abominable Dr. Phibes
In The Abominable Dr. Phibes, the titular physician (Vincent Price) loses his mind after his wife dies in surgery. Believing she died from incompetence, the mad scientist devises intricate schemes to exterminate the medical team who operated on her. Phibes manages to eliminate eight of the doctors before his madness is put to an end.
Even though Phibes is ruthless and determined, what makes him stand out is his theatricality. Rather than shooting his victims or murdering them in their sleep, Phibes bases each of their deaths on the Biblical Plagues of Egypt because, hey, why not?
Dr. Hargreaves has his head crushed by a frog mask, representing the frog plague. Professor Thornton is stung to death by bees, which represents boils. Dr. Whitcombe is impaled by his unicorn statue, representing the livestock plague. (Okay, that one's a bit of a stretch.)
Even though the cops stop Phibes before he takes the life of his last victim, he retires to a sarcophagus, content that enough blood has been spilt to avenge his wife. Well, that is until he returns in the sequel, of course.
