10 More Horror Movie Villains With Absolutely No Motive

3. Mog, Sampo And Cherry - Koko-di Koko-da

Horror Movie Villains No Motive
Dark Star Pictures

Writer-director Johannes Nyholm brings together the creepy, funfair nightmares you had as a child and the horror time loop (a la Triangle or Happy Death Day) in Koko-di Koko-da, a film whose whimsical title belies its frankly miserable content.

The film settles on Tobias and Elin (Leif Edlund and Ylva Gallon), a couple who, following the death of their young daughter, go camping in the woods to save their marriage - as you do. Nyholm uses the forest and the fairytale folk who live there not in a whimsical, Hayao Miyazaki kind of way, but to thoroughly terrorise his characters, and they awaken to find their tent besieged by a storybook trio: sharp-dressed Mog, animalistic Sampo and witchlike Cherry (Peter Belli, Morad Baloo Khatchadorian and Brandy Litmanen).

Subjected to a series of tortures and humiliations, Tobias and Elin are caught in a time loop that brings them back from death to the beginning of their ordeal, to do it again and again. The true identity or incentives of our villains are indistinct and unexplored, but the fact they appear as the nursery rhyme characters from the music box the couple bought their daughter speaks volumes.
