If the cinematic world was cursed with its video game adaptations over the years, that curse can be doubled in the world of horror. There have been some great efforts, particularly over the last few years, but movies based in this particular genre seem genuinely destined to fail.

Clearly, it doesn't even matter how good the source material is. Return to Silent Hill looked to 2001's Silent Hill 2, an almost universally acclaimed game, and removed any and all tension, emotion, charm, and nuance. It was essentially rendered a generic, low-budget mess, when it could have and should have been so much more.

It even managed to do something few other gaming adaptations can do, which is unite both those familiar with the property and those who aren't. Of course, in this case it was because it was hated by everyone, whether they had played the game or not.

Taking such a highly thought-of source material and producing such a watered-down version of it was going to piss fans off, but even as just a horror movie, without taking into account the initial game, this was a shocking effort and another sequel on this list that should have stayed unmade.
