10 Worst Recastings In Horror Movie History

For the first six Friday the 13th movies, Jason Voorhees was played by six different actors, eight if you count various unmasked and dream sequences. It wouldn’t be until movie number seven, 1988’s The New Blood, that the franchise would land on a regular performer for the character - the mighty Kane Hodder.

Also known for, amongst other things, playing Victor Crowley in the Hatchet series and for doing stunt work on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, Hodder appeared as Jason in a record four back-to-back pictures. The films themselves were inconsistent, but Hodder always did a good job.

In 2003, just two years after his previous movie outing, Jason joined up with another horror icon in Freddy vs. Jason. Whilst Robert Englund got to play his most famous part, Hodder did not, as he was replaced by Ken Kirzinger.

Viewers had really fallen for Hodder’s hulking presentation of their beloved killer, so Kirzinger coming in felt like a massive betrayal of their trust. Even Sean S. Cunningham, the original Friday the 13th director, disagreed with replacing Kane, but production company New Line Cinema wanted to take the character in a “different direction”.
