Remakes of John Carpenter movies never usually end well, as evidenced by the 2005 attempt to re-do one of his more overlooked films, The Fog.

In both stories, a quaint coastal settlement is covered in a mysterious mist, which signals the arrival of an army of ghostly sailors with a major grudge against the town and its people. The more recent version had a pretty strong cast, including Smallville's Tom Welling, Hellboy's Selma Blair, and Maggie Grace, who first made her name on Lost. Unfortunately, after seeing her performance in this, most people were wishing she'd stayed on the island.

Grace did a poor job in bringing the character of Elizabeth - the female lead - to life, offering up a bland portrayal that in no way endeared her to any viewer. It didn't help that the script for The Fog '05 was terrible, but that was only part of the problem.

To be fair to Grace, the role of Elizabeth was originally written by Carpenter specifically for Jamie Lee Curtis, who played the character in the original film. That's a tough act for anyone to follow.
