20 Horror Movie Scenes That Make Absolutely No Sense

10. Saw V - The Ceiling Jars Trap

Final Destination 3 Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Lionsgate

Plot: While Mark Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) is being pursued by an FBI agent who survived his traps, he puts five civilians through another brutal game.

Like most horror franchises that make it to ten or more entries, Saw has its share of stupid moments. One of the very dumbest scenes comes in Saw V, the franchise's arguable nadir.

In this movie's game, five people who caused a deadly fire are put through a series of games. They're told to work together to survive, but only two of them ultimately escape the game. It was certainly refreshing to see one of Jigsaw's games being survivable for everyone for a change. Normally, he and his apprentices don't actually practice what they preach and instead make games where the deaths of several participants are more or less unavoidable.

Still, it was ridiculous that the game's players didn't work this out. Specifically, the second of the traps was clearly survivable for all four of the remaining people. It involved finding keys to three shelters which would protect them from several exploding nail bombs, and those shelters were obviously big enough for more than one person.

Ultimately, scumbag journalist Charles (Carlo Rota) dies in this trap, and previous scenes presented him as a capable, intelligent character beforehand - did it not occur to him to join one of the others in one of the shelters?
