20 Horror Movie Sequels Releasing In 2026

Scream 7 has certainly had quite the tumultuous journey to the big screen.

Melissa Barrera was controversially fired during pre-production, prompting co-star Jenna Ortega to subsequently take her own leave, prompting the producers to coax Neve Campbell back with a presumably sizable payday after she sat out Scream VI due to a salary dispute.

Scream 7 will revolve around a new Ghostface who targets Sidney's daughter Tatum (Isabel May), and also mark the first time that franchise creator Kevin Williamson has stepped into the director's chair for a Scream movie.

It'll certainly be interesting to see how Barrera and Ortega's Carpenter sisters are shelved this time around, and with the cast including the likes of Matthew Lillard, David Arquette, and Scott Foley - all of whose characters died in prior entries - there are plausible rumours that the plot will be aggressively lampooning AI.

There are fair reasons to be skeptical about the production of this one, but hopefully it'll add another meaningful installment to the ever-expanding slasher mythology.

Scream 7 releases on February 27.
