2. Jaws - The Shark Looks Fake
Jaws is a true masterpiece, and one of the closest things to perfection you can find in this genre. The directing, the performances, the writing, the music, everything about this one is so ridiculously on-point, and given how hellish this one's production was, that is nothing short of a miracle.
One of the biggest problems on set was that the shark models wouldn't work properly, meaning that director Steven Spielberg decided to show the shark as little as possible, which ended up being the best decision he could've made. Firstly, the fear of the unknown and what we can't see sent the suspense levels through the roof, and secondly, the shark model looked fake as hell.
Keeping it off-screen until the final act was definitely for the best because, by the time it does arrive, Spielberg has established such a strong sense of fear and got viewers so invested in the story that they will still feel scared of the shark even though it looks like an oversized bath toy.
Those shark models were never going to be especially effective on their own terms, but Spielberg and Co. cleverly worked around it and made the rest about as good as a movie can be. As such, they compensated for this issue tenfold.
