20 Horror Movies So Good You Overlook Huge Flaws

With Scream VI, a lot of people will guess who's wearing the Ghostface mask quite early on. Most of the earlier Scream instalments had managed to come up with effective plot twists, but not this one.

In this sixth instalment, a new Ghostface is in New York and leaving behind Ghostface masks at each crime scene. It didn't take a lot to work out that the new killer was Detective Wayne Bailey (Dermot Mulroney). Only a police officer would've been able to access those masks very easily, and when he briefly mentions losing a son but doesn't elaborate, those attuned to this franchise's common narrative trajectory quickly guessed that he was the father of the previous movie's killer, Richie.

This was the first Scream to have three Ghostfaces, and one of the others was entirely foreseeable. That was Wayne's daughter Quinn (Liana Liberato), who 'died' off-screen earlier on and whose 'body' wasn't shown clearly. That's pretty much the number-one giveaway of a fake-out death, so yes, the Ghostface twist was more predictable than it should've been. 

But otherwise? Scream VI is an absolute blast. An endlessly entertaining slasher romp with razor-sharp dialogue, performances, and action scenes, Scream VI is not just one of the best instalments in the Scream franchise; it's one of the best slasher films of the 21st century. So yes, it compensates for this foreseeable plot twist many times over, and hey, it looks better after how atrocious the recent Scream 7's ending was.
