20 Horror Movies That Were JUST Announced
These horror movies were just confirmed.
There's arguably no genre with more enthusiastic fans than horror, and that undeniable passion is matched by the sheer number of horror films being produced at any one time, from no-budget DIY fare to mega-budget studio blockbusters.
While 2026 already has a towering slate of horror films we've known about for a good while now, what about those impending horror movies that were only just recently announced, and which you might've missed?
We only just learned that these 20 horror films are actually, definitely happening, from long rumoured reboots to hit franchises, to sequels that have spent decades trapped in development hell, and even some genuinely original ideas with no rooting in existing IP.
Each of these films offer up sure promise, though considering many of them are still in the embryonic stages and perhaps don't even have a writer and director attached, it remains to be seen how the end result will pan out.
Whether they succeed or fail, though, these horror films are all currently in development and expected to release within the next couple of years - if not sooner...
20. Paranormal Activity 8
The Paranormal Activity franchise wrapped up its original run with 2015's Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, after which a standalone seventh entry, Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin, was dumped on Paramount+ to negative reviews in 2021.
Next of Kin was so poorly received that even franchise producer Jason Blum called it "terrible," before confirming that the series had been put on ice until a filmmaker comes along with a compelling reason for it to be revived.
And that time has apparently come, as genre master James Wan (Saw, Insidious, The Conjuring) is now set to co-produce an eighth installment in the franchise, citing his keenness to "[expand] on its legacy and [help] shape the next evolution" of the series.
Wan will produce alongside Blum and franchise creator Oren Peli, with an intent to make the new film for the theatrical market rather than streaming.
Meanwhile rising indie horror filmmaker Ian Tuason - who recent feature debut Undertone earned rave reviews on the festival circuit before being acquired by A24 - is confirmed to direct.
