20 Horror Sequels That Were Just Announced

14. Undertone 2 & 3

Few films this year have proven the scrappy potential of horror more than Undertone - a $500,000 low-fi genre offering that, despite taking place in a single location with just two on-screen actors, grossed an impressive $22 million globally.

Even so, absolutely nothing about this film suggested it was set to kickstart a franchise, especially with filmmaker Ian Tuason swiftly leaping off to helm the next installment in the Paranormal Activity franchise. But following Undertone's release, Tuason confirmed that he actually designed the film as the start of a trilogy, with Undertone 2 set to be a prequel focused on Mike and Jessa, the couple featured in the first film's haunted recordings.

Tuason stated a willingness to answer the questions left hanging by the original, and though he wouldn't reveal any details about Undertone 3, he said he's already talking to A24 about it and "it looks like it’s going to happen."

If Tuason can stick to similar shoestring budgets for the sequels, then there's virtually zero chance of them failing commercially, so why not?
