20 Horror Sequels That Were Just Announced
15. Popeye the Slayer Man 2
With Popeye entering the public domain at the start of 2025, enterprising filmmakers wasted no time at all assembling a horror movie cash-in, with the hilariously titled Popeye the Slayer Man - centered around a man who is mutated after eating contaminated spinach - releasing in March 2025.
But amid largely negative reviews and a perception that the "public domain horror movie" concept was already losing its charm, there wasn't much expectation for the film to spawn a wider franchise. Still, this past May, it was announced that Popeye the Slayer Man 2 had already quietly started filming in upstate New York, with Daniel Baldwin and Avaryana Rose confirmed to star.
Producer Jeff Miller has called the sequel "bigger and bloodier than the first," and so we can only hope that it goes the same way as Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, by serving up a slicker, more creative follow-up to an aggressively low-budget, rough-around-the-edges original.
