10 2000s Albums That Are A Lot Better Than You Remember

8. Fallen - Evanescence

The entire metal community has seemed to wipe their hands of the nu metal boom as of late. Though the genre has seemed to see a sort of renaissance in recent years with acts like From Ashes to New, the more hardened metal fans haven't really thought about the likes of Staind or Puddle of Mudd ever since the warranties on their JNCO jeans expired. For all of the cultural wasteland that we talk it up to be though, treating Evanescence with the same scorn is like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Granted, it's not like Amy Lee's signature brand of symphonic metal hasn't been done better in loads more places (hell...Epica exists, people). When it comes to Fallen though, it offers a bit of a mainstream edge that most of the far reaching acts seem to ignore. Despite having one of the bonafied memes of the modern age in Bring Me To Life, songs like Going Under were proof enough that Lee's high soprano could hold her own next to chunky as hell riffs.

There are even little bits and pieces that pull from the golden age of metal, with Metallica style breakdowns and an aesthetic that falls on the darker side of the Cure. In an age when nu metal was supposed to age awfully, Fallen is still a decent listen that deserves to be given a second look.
