10 '90s Bands Everyone Forgets About

8. Live

If you were any self-respecting rock act around the late '90s, you didn't have a prayer on the radio if you weren't pulling from grunge at least a little bit. Hell, even some of the more self-effacing rock bands from decades past tried their hand at going grunge every once in a while, often with hilarious results. While many may have expected to see their favorite acts filtered through mountains of irony, Live rose to the forefront as the alternative answer to U2.

It feels weird to even say that though, considering U2 themselves were already starting to get a little tired of their own sound on Achtung Baby and Zooropa. Then again, all of the building blocks for a great U2 song are present in most of Live's tracks, from the shimmering guitars on songs like Lightning Crashes to the powerhouse vocal performances that seem a little bit reminiscent of what Bono would have jumped on in the era of the Joshua Tree.

Once the '00s kicked in though, Live were basically exhausted of all their energy, falling victim to the Y2K curse and never really finding their way to the top of the charts ever again. If you're ever feeling curious about where rock was headed after the grunge mantel fell through, you could certainly do a lot worse than this.
