10 Albums Recorded In Bizarre Locations

2. Space Sessions – Chris Hadfield

Arguably trumping them all in terms of unique and impressive recording locations, Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield has the distinction of being the only artist to record a full album in space. Hadfield laid down the tracks during a six-month stint on the International Space Station, between December 2012 and May 2013. The results were officially released two years later.

In Hadfield's own words, "Bit by bit, squeezed into all of the work that was going on up there, I recorded those songs. They were changed by the place. A couple of them I wrote from scratch, inspired by being up there. By the end, I had successfully commanded a spaceship and done all the work, but also came home with a dozen or 15 songs recorded like music has never been recorded before.”

Reviews are decidedly mixed, leading to the conclusion that Space Sessions will be remembered more for its historical significance than its content. As a personal and collective achievement, however, it is as impressive as they come.
