10 Albums That Changed Rock History

4. London Calling - The Clash

Depending on which music journalist you ask, punk rock is probably one of the best things to ever happen to rock and roll. Even though rock was doing fine on the charts, this is what made the sound of a handful of chords feel exciting again, with bands that didn't care about what it took to be famous. While The Ramones may have kicked the door down first and the Sex Pistols became the spokesmen, there's no competition that compares with London Calling.

Despite its intimidating track listing, this is everything about the free spirit of punk condensed into just over an hour. Trading off between Mick Jones and Joe Strummer, you can hear the unrest they feel towards their country, living situations, and even each otheron these tracks. This is also the first punk album that actually felt like it had something to say.

Whereas the Ramones made love songs and songs about being bored, making the title track a criticism of the British Empire and tackling the disassociation from modern living on Lost in the Supermarket is something that you wouldn't find on your average Cheap Trick song or anything. Although the title may have been self proclaimed, this record is reason enough as to why the Clash will always be the Only Band That Matters.
