10 Albums That Changed The Face Of Rock Music

2. Revolver - The Beatles (1966)

This was when the Beatles began transitioning from a mere pop group, into a force of true artistic nature. The albums that came before had all demonstrated the creativity of the group, elevating them above their pop contemporaries. Just two years after their debut, the Beatles had six wildly popular and hugely successful albums under their belt, this afforded them the freedom to try something new.

Revolver saw the Beatles become a studio band, laying down hundreds of hours of music in order to finely craft songs. George Harrison emerged as a more prominent force, taking the lead on two tracks. Taxman was a sneering jab at government policy. Love You To, saw George Harrison incorporate classical Indian styles. The lyrics were in part influenced by Harrison's experiences with LCD and Eastern philosophy - influences that only became more apparent with subsequent records.

Two of Lennon's biggest songs explored countercultural themes, examining the realms of consciences with tracks like I'm Only Sleeping and Tomorrow Never Knows. Of course McCartney was on top form; notably influencing a rise in popularity for baroque pop, with the beautifully tragic Eleanor Rigby.
