10 Albums That End On A Cliffhanger

8. A Thousand Suns - Linkin Park

For your average Linkin Park fan, it was a bit of a trip going through a Thousand Suns for the first time. Outside of the whining naysayers who were crying foul after their favorite nu metal band went into electronica territory, the underlying tale of nuclear machinery destroying the planet was still fairly intriguing for these nu metal titans. So with each electronic layer folding in on itself, we finally get our conclusion with...acoustic guitar?

Outside of the pure chaos that was going on in a track like the Catalyst, this is like the polar antithesis of everything Linkin Park was associated with at this point. Even in the Hybrid Theory days, you never really heard an acoustic guitar like this on a record, especially when combined with Chester Bennington's trademark rasp. Though the song itself is fantastic, it does leave us with a lot of questions concerning the album's final moments.

Since this whole thing was supposed to be centered around the nuclear threats closing in around us, this acoustic passage could mean a few different things. Either we've found a way to make peace without having to start any kind of revolution, or this could be the final moments as we face nuclear extinction. As dark as that thought may be, having your album end as open ended as this is a good way to keep your audience guessing about where your next move will be.
