10 Albums That Fell Apart During Production
3. Be Here Now - Oasis
Everything about Oasis' rise to fame in the '90s was all about building up the momentum of them both on stage and in the studio. From the minute that Definitely Maybe hit the airwaves, the band were on a mission to become one of the greatest bands in the world, and it looked like What's the Story Morning Glory lived up to all of those promises, with tracks like Champagne Supernova and Wonderwall becoming modern classics in the world of rock. Now that you've reached the top of the mountain, what the hell do you do afterward?
While the original teasers for Be Here Now sounded like it was aiming even bigger than its predecessor, the songs that actually turn up on here were almost too sanitized by Oasis' standards. Since most of the sessions were being fueled by the band and their producer out of their minds on cocaine, the songs tend to stretch out way too long than they have any right to, with potentially good tracks like All Around the World and D'You Know What I Mean going on for 7-9 minutes at a time.
Oasis may have got what they wanted in the short term with this being one of the biggest albums of their career, but things started to unravel almost immediately after touring wrapped up, with the band taking a hiatus and coming back a shell of themselves on Standing on the Shoulder of Giants just a few years later. The Gallaghers always had a strong belief in being the biggest band in the world, but this is what happens when you start to believe your own hype a little too much.
