10 Albums That The Critics Got Wrong
3. The END - Black Eyed Peas
Okay....so the Black Eyed Peas have never been known as a particularly thoughtful band. No matter how much you may have jammed to their tunes back in high school, you'd be hardpressed to find anyone go out on a limb for My Humps being a masterpiece of the human language. Then again, even some of the most mindless music in the world can get you in good favors with the press from time to time.
As much as songs like Boom Boom Pow cluttered the airwaves in 2009, legendary critic Robert Christgau gave The END an A rating when it was first released. Even when talking about the content though, you can clearly tell that this isn't the most glowing endorsement. When going into detail, Christgau seems to defend himself just by saying that the songs do exactly what they're supposed to do and don't wear out their welcome after a few minutes.
Then again, that doesn't bode well 10 years later, with the album feeling far too bloated for its own good and bogged down by filler that sounds like Will i am just found some random presets on his MIDI keyboard. But who knows? If I Gotta Feeling managed to survive the test of time, maybe we were the ones who were out of the loop.
