10 Albums Which Will Make You Fall In Love With Death Metal

7. Realm Of Chaos - Bolt Thrower

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xqOf-KjdVY How do you replicate the sounds of the battlefield through music? Sure, you could just use audio samples of artillery and bombardment but England's Bolt Thrower have managed to create an approach to death metal that perfectly replicates the sounds of war and carnage. The band's second studio record, Realm of Chaos, is a fine example of the formula that Bolt Thrower strived to achieve. Frequent blast beat drumming, frantic riffs and growls all combine together to create a sound that is shaped by war and fury. Andrew Whale's drumming consistently resembles machine gun fire whilst the tone of the riffs resemble the sound of artillery fire, Realm of Chaos is the soundtrack to the battlefield. 'World Eater' in itself is a death metal masterpiece and 'Through The Eye of Terror' will cause repetitive banging of the head as you picture yourself on the battlefield. With such a deep connection to the theme of war, Bolt Thrower's albums and in particular Realm of Chaos, are as musically close to the sound of the battlefield as directly listening to the weaponry fire. It all makes a unique and brutal listening experience.
