10 Alt Rock Songs That Are Impossible To Play On Guitar
1. Love is the Law - The Seahorses
Every generation has those few guitar players that are unapologetic about what they do. Even if the era of guitar heroes was out during the '90s, that didn't stop John Squire from laying down some of the best licks of his career with the Stone Roses, with songs like Love Spreads tapping into something much more bluesy amid the rest of the Britpop world. The Roses would only survive for a short time after though, and Squire had a new band to conquer the Earth with on the Seahorses' first record.
While the entire lifespan of the Seahorses was miniscule compared to their contemporaries, Love is the Law may be one of the most celebrated guitar performances of the '90s, with John launching into an extended jam towards the end of the song. Although most of the people who heard the single never heard this version, the album cut is a full 4 minutes longer, with John spending the rest of that time absolutely murdering his guitar, going from different tasty blues licks to switching to fast runs that sound like the guitar is about to explode out of the speaker.
There are even a few runs that are impossible to pull off the same way, like when John gets halfway through the solo and proceeds to go beyond the fretboard to get different sounds that you can't even reach with a normal guitar. By the end of this song, every single British guitarist had a new benchmark to aspire to, and that unlucky guitar seemed to finally be put out of its misery.
