10 Amazing Albums (That Are Under 30 Minutes)

1. Nick Drake - Pink Moon

The much-missed Nick Drake released only three albums in his lifetime and there’s an argument that each could be his best. Debut Five Leaves Left is beautifully bucolic, follow up Bryter Layter bolstered by early chamber pop brightness.

His brittle, mournful final record, though, perhaps encapsulates the talent of the man best, though. In under half an hour, Drake runs through every emotion in the book. He’s known primarily as a master of melancholy, but his sad tracks are never one dimensional.

Tracks like “Place To Be” grapple with his fragile mental state, while “Which Will” casts him as lovelorn and lonesome. It never strays into self pitying territory, though, through virtue of his no-nonsense voice and musicianship.

His casually poetic lyricism means this is an album to be torn apart and examined from all angles, but while he wasn’t long for this world, he leaves on a note of positivity, the gently hopeful, haunting “From The Morning”.
