10 Amazing Classic Rock Inspired Albums From The 21st Century

6. Songs For The Deaf - Queens Of The Stone Age

Queens of the Stone Age had been known as the kings of stoner rock by the time the millennium turned a corner. Josh Homme's self-coined genre of "robot rock" seem to fit the band's more straightforward riffing, but the chilling ambience of the band's records draped the tunes in a sonic haze.

Once the band came out with Songs for the Deaf, they went from this decently popular underground band to one of the main forces in rock music in one fell swoop. The entire album seems to get under your skin in a way few albums of the day could, which came from Homme's grand musical vision. The record still had the band's trademark heaviness of their early years, but there was a certain element that made the songs have an almost jaunty swing feel to them. It was like if Black Sabbath one day decided to stop making doomy metal and decided to write an AC/DC style blues rock jam.

The addition of Dave Grohl on drums also gave the songs a new spin, almost as if the bottom end of the record had a John Bonham level of thunder. Whether you were from the old stoner rock realm or just a fairweather fan, there's was denying the amount of kickass on display here.
