10 Amazing Later Releases By Legendary Rock Acts

7. Chaos and Creation in the Backyard - Paul McCartney

By the time that the '00s turned a corner, there was no reason why Paul McCartney needed to make any new albums. He had already become a superstar a few times over, and even if his '90s output got to the point of dad rock for some people, he still had a wealth of Beatles songs to keep his legacy secure at that point. Paul wasn't looking to lounge for the rest of his life, and him hooking up with Radiohead's producer made for one of the more denser listens of his career.

With Nigel Godrich at the helm, there are a few moments on this album that veer away from Paul's normal style, sticking mainly to piano for a majority of the track listing and making different soundscapes that are more in line with the indie scene, like How Kind of You having a Radiohead vibe to it, almost in the same vein as Hail to The Thief. Though Chaos and Creation is far from a McCartney or even Wings project, it never stops feeling like Paul's baby, with songs like English Tea getting his whimsy back into play and Jenny Wren pining back to the days of writing songs like Blackbird for the White Album.

What we end up getting is one of the more homespun records Paul had ever made, bringing it closer to the sounds that he made when making his pure solo albums like McCartney or McCartney II. The Paul McCartney that everyone knew is still in here somewhere, but the entire feel of this record exists in a world of its own, far away from his solo work or even the Fabs.
