10 Amazing Noughties Albums No One Ever Talks About
2. The Dresden Dolls - No, Virginia
The only album on this list to feature a song about stealing garden gnomes to get back at high school bullies, No, Virginia was largely dismissed by critics and some fans as nothing more than a collection of outtakes. While strictly speaking this is true - songs like Dear Jenny and Boston were played live for years but never made it onto the previous albums - No, Virginia is so much more than that, and stands up as a great album in its own right. It does not sound anything like a bundle of watery odds-and-sods, but rather a collection of strong, well-developed songs that never deserved to exist only in live bootleg form in the most devoted Dolls' fans' music library. Like any Dresden Dolls work, No, Virginia's sound is sinister, anomalous and sometimes oddly uplifting - and just as good as previous releases. Best Tracks: The Sheep Song, Night Reconnaissance, The Kill
