10 Amazing Pop Songs By Rock Artists

1. She's Leaving Home - The Beatles

If you want to get pedantic, the Beatles have never been all that far away from pop music to begin with. Even though they always looked at themselves as a rock and roll band, the hooks that they came up with were always a lot more sophisticated than what you were going to find on a Jerry Lee Lewis record from back in the day. As they went further and further down the studio rabbit hole though, all of that rock edge got washed away on She's Leaving Home.

Coming from the colossal statement Sgt. Peppers, this is one of the most introspective songs that Paul McCartney could have written at the time. Being the start of the Summer of Love and kicking off the flower generation, this is a complex look at the family dynamic that was going on at the time, with Paul telling the story of a girl who runs away from home after not being able to handle her parent's attitude anymore.

For all of the other bands around the time that were talking about tuning in and dropping out, this is one of the more heart tugging songs that you could have asked for, with John Lennon playing the role of the clueless parents, not knowing that this girl has not been able to have fun for most of her life. This didn't just fall on deaf ears either, with Paul playing advanced copies for Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys and Wilson being moved to tears by the end of the song. If the Beatles were advocates for the Summer of Love, this was Macca putting every lonely kid's life story into words.
