10 Amazing Pop Songs By Rock Artists
8. New Perspective - Panic at the Disco
Towards the end of the '00s, it looked like the classic version of Panic at the Disco was pretty much dead in the water. Though Brendon Urie was still as electric a frontman as he ever was, the loss of main songwriter Ryan Ross after the album Pretty Odd really fractured the band down the middle. This wasn't a death knell though...this was a sign of things to come.
Taken from the soundtrack to the teen movie Jennifer's Body, New Perspective was a lot more pop flavored Panic than we were expecting, with bits and pieces sprinkled in from the Ross era of the band. Though the lyrics may have taken a bit of a backseat on this affair, there's much more of a retro vibe going on with the music, sounding like it could have been a relic from the mid period Beatles than the emo band that we got to know on I Write Sins Not Tragedies.
If that wasn't enough, just have a listen to the breakdown section, where Brendon practically makes a vocal harmony solo that sounds like it could have come out of any Nickelodeon star that you saw around the same time. This was just the tip of the iceberg though, with Urie eventually taking the reins in the band and steering it into full pop territory for the next decade. When you look at it that way, this song was just Urie finding his strengths as a songwriter.
