10 Amazing Rock Albums That You Didn't Know Were About Drugs
9. Be Here Now - Oasis
In the mind of Noel Gallagher, everything involving Oasis' success depended on the success of their third album Be Here Now. After recording two breakout albums right out of the gate, this was the album that was either going to sink their reputation like a stone or put them up in the conversation with legends like the Beatles and the Smiths. While Be Here Now did get that success back in the day, there was a glaring problem, and that was coming from the cocaine.
Being rockers in every sense of the word, this is probably the most drug fueled album that the Gallagher Brothers were ever involved with, having the money to go wild in the studio and abuse as many drugs as they wanted. You can really hear it on the album proper as well, with mountains of guitar overdubs that end up sounding like a barrage of noise after a while.
Given that their egos were through the roof as well, they also had the idea to make the album as long as possible, turning the potentially good songs into long slogs that venture up until 9 minutes. Even Owen Morris couldn't help matters either, with the producer also being out of his mind smoking everything he could. There is a good album buried in here somewhere, but you can practically see a pile of white powder the size of Mount Everest just listening to the final version.
