10 Amazing Rock Songs That Are Ridiculously Short

2. I Will - The Beatles

As brilliant as the Beatles' back catalog can be, it would be a mistake to put the White Album on shuffle. As much as these guys were honing their craft and branching out into their own solo artists, you also have songs that have no business being on a Beatles record such as Revolution 9 or whatever is going on on the interlude track Wild Honey Pie. After going for a bluesy jam on Why Don't We Do It In the Road, I Will is probably Paul McCartney's most delicate love song.

Written while the band was still practicing meditation in India, there's a freewheeling folksy feel to this entire project. In fact, the whole arrangement of this song is a lot more organic than you'd probably think, with minimal percussion and Paul playing "bass" by singing the bass part close to the mic to give it a lot of low end. The whole thing feels like a nice piece of magic, but it didn't come together that way in the studio.

For as short and sweet as this song seems when listening to it, it was a nightmare to get finished in the studio, with the band running through this track over 50 times. It's bad enough to play your own song 50 times, let alone having to be John Lennon, who's only job was to play woodblocks for 2 minutes. After finally nailing it though, Paul had made a song that wouldn't feel that out of place at a wedding reception years down the road.
