10 Amazing Rock Songs With No Lyrics

6. Session - Linkin Park

Linkin Park incorporated elements of electronic music into their style to great success, so it's only fair that a song made entirely on Pro Tools should get a spot on this list.

As the penultimate song on the band's sophomore album Meteora, Session had the unenviable task of being the precursor to Numb. Rapper and sampler Mike Shinoda wasn't phased by this though, as he put together a fine piece of work to fill the gap.

Using mainly percussion and scratching, with a few glitchy sound effects thrown in for good measure, Shinoda created an instrumental piece drenched in character. On the surface, this shouldn't work as a rock song at all, but it captures so much of the band's spirit that it doesn't feel out of place on Meteora at all.

Shinoda's sampling and Joe Hahn's work on the turntables were what helped Linkin Park stand out in their early days, and it's because of songs like Session that they were able to stay afloat in such a busy scene. Even though there isn't a guitar in sight on this record, it's still as moshable as any conventional metal song.
