10 Artists That Disowned Their Own Songs

7. Misery Business - Paramore

In the same way that nu metal has had fairweather fans, so too has emo had some hangers on that dropped off the map. Though the emo scene was never really the coolest thing ever back in the ‘00s, there were many fans that tended to keep the over the top goth look to themselves when the turn of the decade happened. There was a lot of great angst to be found there, but sometimes it hits a bit of an awkward note.

Because when you listen to Misery Business in your teens, this is the kind of rock song that every girl wants to sing at the top of their lungs, taking the new girlfriend of their ex to task for making their life a living hell. Then again, Hayley Williams has had a bit of a testy relationship with the song in the past few years, noting that some of the lyrics like “once a whore you’re nothing more” don’t really sound all that great in retrospect. This wasn’t just a jaded rock star pleasing the crowd either…Paramore straight up disowned the song.

In light of changing times, the band put out a statement saying that they would no longer be performing the song live because of its borderline misogynistic sections and would like to distance themselves from that kind of mindset going forward. Compared to the disgruntled bands that are bitter about their biggest songs, Paramore seem to at least be in it for the right reasons. They could have easily lost a lot of fans along the way, but that’s what happens when you eventually have to grow up.
