10 Artists Who Released Their Best Album First
6. Innerworld - Electric Youth
Only forming in 2011 but wielding one of the best bedroom/synth pop albums of the past century, Electric Youth have all the time in the world to expand on their already impressive catalogue of music.
The Toronto-based duo have dabbled in creating music for film (which is no wonder since their success was born largely from their song A Real Hero's inclusion in the 2011 film Drive) with albums like Breathing, as well as releasing a full, isolated studio album in 2019 titled Memory Emotion. The latter was fantastic, but their first release, simply named Innerworld, is as close to chill-pop perfection as it gets.
12 infinitely listenable tracks make up the album, which is wrapped in artwork that is immediately recognisable to those who find pleasure in the band's discography. While Innerworld is undoubtedly covered under the 'Synthwave' banner, it's not as abrasive (for better or worse) as Carpenter Brut or Perturbator, nor as nostalgia-inspired as artists like Kavinsky.
Yet, when the topic is raised amongst moustache-twirling music snobs, Electric Youth are always considered one of the best the genre can offer, which is due in large part to their maiden album's unrelenting quality.
