5. Deftones
These rockers from Sacramento, Calif., have been on tour for the better part of a year in support of their 2012 album, Koi No Yokan, but they havent done an arena tour in quite some time. Playing smaller venues allows them to get up close and personal with their fans. They lost longtime bassist Chi Cheng in early 2013, who had been in a coma since a car accident in 2008. During a show in Springfield, Mo., two weeks after Cheng died, the crowd took up a chant of Chi while guitarist Stephen Carpenter worked out difficulties with his effects pedal. After about a minute of the chant, lead singer Chino Moreno spoke about how tough the past couple of weeks had been for the band, saying that Chi is with us all tonight, right here, and pointed down at the stage. During their headlining tour earlier this year, the band played songs across all seven albums. Throughout their set, Moreno eased off the microphone and let the crowd sing the lyrics during songs that included him on guitar. He keeps those in attendance involved by crowd diving and standing on the security gate while he sings into the faces of those up front. Deftones is currently touring in Europe, but underthegunreview.net is reporting rumors that they may tour the U.S. with Ghost B.C. to support Avenged Sevenfold this fall.
